TIMO

The Turkic International Mathematical Olympiad (TIMO) is an international math competition for students from Grade 3 to Grade 12. It aims to enhance students’ analytical thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills through challenging and creative math questions. TIMO is conducted in two stages — a Preliminary Round held in participating countries and a Global Round hosted in Turkey. Students who perform well receive International Merit awards and participation awards. TIMO provides global exposure, builds confidence, and encourages students to pursue excellence in mathematics.

Format & Rounds of TIMO
Two Stages
Selection / Preliminary Round –  a national-level qualifying round.
Global / Final Round – the international stage for students who qualify.

Exam Format — Preliminary Round
Multiple-choice questions

Grades 5–12  – 25 questions 90 Minutes

Scoring (Preliminary)  –  +4 points for a correct answer, –1 point for a wrong answer, 0 for unanswered.

Global / Final Round   –  Held in-person ( in Baku, Azerbaijan/UAE)

Exam duration and format (2026 rules):
~90 minutes for selection but Final is longer (120 minutes for final)

Questions :
25 in Preliminary; Final may include open-ended problems (not just MCQ) per year’s rules.
Evaluation: similar scoring system, but higher difficulty and different evaluation in Final.

Eligibility

1. Open to students from Grade II (2) to Grade XII (12).
2. For Final: All merit students from the Selection Round are eligible.

Awards

1. Preliminary Round: Merit and Participation Certificates.
2. Global Round: Medals awarded by percentiles in each grade category (e.g., top 8% Gold, top 15% Silver …)
3. Special prizes / trophies may also be awarded depending on year / category.
